fidgety and insistant

had a very surreal moment last night. it was about 7:20pm when jessica and i were leaving the house where i am staying in austin and just about to her car... she had just unlocked it when (for lack of a better discription in the dim evening air) a big-burly-black-guy with huge diamond stud earrings glistening under the alley lights came running up the drive way at us. he was saying something like: "you've gotta help me! you've got to help me!" being all fidgety and insistant... we were like: "what's wrong?" and he says, "my kid is dying just over there" as he points in no specific direction at all... "you've gotta help me!" "sir, do you want us to call 911 for you?" and he says, "no!" as he proceeds to open the back seat of jessica's car and crall inside. "listen, i'm not lying! you've gotta help me!" now jess and i are standing outside her car saying, "uhm sir, we don't feel comfortable riding with you...could you possibly run and we could follow behind you? ...uh, do you want us to call 911?" "uh yea," he mumbles as he jumps out of the car and stands uncomfortably close to jessica for a brief moment that felt like eternity as i watched suspiciously... then he took off up the driveway toward the house as fast as he arrived... and i was thinking outloud at jessica, 'where is he going? it's a dead end up there?' then we heard him run into the trash can near laura's car and maybe hit the fence... did he enter the backyard? donno... it was so weird. jess and i got into the car and LOCKED the doors...and started to back out of the driveway. then we thought we had better tell carol and the two others hanging out in the house... so they could be aware and lock their doors. everything just happened so fast. it was so surreal... it wasn't until jess and i were on the road that we started to flip out a little about it... scary!

i found out this afternoon that laura said there was a helicopter flying overhead this area not long after we left and cops and people looking for someone on our street... great! i knew it! something was definitely strange about the whole thing. and he wanted to hijack our vehicle... ya right! over our dead bodies! (ewgh... maybe i shouldn't say that). it just amazed me how carefully calm jess and i remained during all of this. i would have even had time to break into my karate stance... pow! bam! bif! ...don't mess with texas.
