the question of questions

Someone sent me this as a forwarded email... Sure, by virtue of it being a 'forward' there is some thought to it not being altogether accurate, but for the most part, there's a lot of truth to it.

What is love?

Are your palms sweaty? Does your heart race? Does your voice get caught in your chest? It's not love, It's INFATUATION.
If you can't keep your eyes and hand off them, it's not love, it's LUST.
Are you eager to show them off to your friends? It's not love, it's PRIDE.
Do you want them because you know they're there? It's not love, it's LONELINESS.
Are you there because it's what they want? It's not love, it's LOYALTY.
Do you stay for their confessions of love because you don't want to hurt them? It's not love, it's PITY.
Do you tell them you are committed but dump them for someone better? It's not love, it's a LIE.
Do you buy things to show how much you care? It's not love, it's CHARITY.

Do you both keep yourselves pure until marriage? Then it's LOVE.
Does your heart ache when they are sad? Then it's LOVE.
Do you accept them regardless of their faults? Then it's LOVE.
Are you willing to put their needs above yours? Then it's LOVE.
Do you love them because God loves them? Then it's LOVE.
Do you forgive them unlimited times? Then it's LOVE.
Are you willing to give them your heart, your life and your death? Then it's LOVE.
Do you hold their walk with God more important than you hold their relationship with you? Then it's LOVE.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says:
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

Application:
Paul is referring to the action of love that we show our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. How do we love and how do we know what love is? From Christ's example. It is not that we first love God but that GOD FIRST LOVED US. (1 John 4:19) Christ's love for us sent Him to the cross. Do not mistaken the world's definition of emotions and romance for love. Go back to the real definition of love... God's definition.

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He that does not love does not know God, for God is love. ... God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him." 1 John 4:7-8, 16b.
